C.P. Bourg Ergonomic Sheet Elevator Aids Off-line Production of Digitally-Printed Materials

GRAPH EXPO 2011; McCormick Place, Chicago; Sept. 12, 2011 – C.P. Bourg, the world’s leading technology developer and supplier of in-line and near-line document feeding, binding and finishing equipment for the broad spectrum of traditional and digital printing environments, today unveiled the Bourg BHCE High Capacity Elevator, the printing industry’s first large-volume sheet elevator capable of supporting high-capacity sheet stackers commonly used with different manufacturer’s production digital print engines.

The new Bourg BHCE is on display here at Graph Expo 2011 in C.P. Bourg booth #2027.

Aimed at digital printing environments with near-line post-processing workflows, the Bourg BHCE is a time saving device with an ergonomic design that lets an operator transfer print output loaded on high-capacity stacking carts to the BHCE and conveniently feed the collated sets to off-line binders and other finishing equipment. C.P. Bourg is a major supplier of the high-capacity stackers to various printer manufacturers.

The operator merely rolls the loaded stacking cart through a hinged door and into the Bourg BHCE. With the cart safely inside the sturdy metal BHCE enclosure, the operator pushes a button to activate the elevator.

The Bourg BHCE is able to lift and maintain a stacking cart loaded with pre-collated page sets weighing 286 pounds to a height of 27 inches. With the stack top held at a constant ergonomic height, the operator can unload the sets of pre-collated and personalized material without the stress and strain associated with repeatedly bending over and lifting up each set.

“Until print is produced in the ‘factory of the future,’ finishing digitally-printed materials off-line will remain a highly efficient and flexible workflow approach, and stacks of collated materials will continue to be moved by human hands. To be their most productive, the operators who perform these tasks need ergonomically designed tools that can help them do their jobs with the greatest ease and least strain,” said Richard Trapilo, Executive Vice President and General Manager, C.P. Bourg Inc.

“The new Bourg BHCE High-Capacity Elevator reduces fatigue and optimizes operator productivity by helping prevent muscle strain associated with repeatedly bending down and standing up to retrieve collated print sets, while protecting the stack in a secure enclosure.”

The Bourg BHCE High-Capacity Elevator is available immediately from C.P. Bourg and Xerox Corporation in configurations compatible with a variety of different manufacturer’s digital print engines.
